Explanation of EnTeam Games

EnTeam strengthens students academically and socially through games that keep score of improvements in cooperation. EnTeam provides both educational games and social games. Games require players from different teams to work together and improve their score over a series of rounds to determine their success. Instead of having a personal opponent, players are faced with impersonal opponents such as time, distance, prejudice, or fear.

Everybody wins — or everybody loses together — depending on whether they can improve their combined scores. Games can be created and applied to math problems, team bonding, poetry writing, character development, racial justice discussions, and more! Below are some of the many skills and qualities that EnTeam Games encourage in players.

ACHIEVEMENT

EnTeam Games benefit students academically and emotionally. They create more efficient classes, enhance individual effort in group-work activities, and strengthen academic achievement in students.

Players practice communication skills in order to be successful at achieving their goal. Each game requires players to debrief in order to discuss how to improve. After an EnTeam game, players connect the activity being done with current events, life skills, and relevant topics.

CREATIVE THINKING

Creative thinking is important when playing a game that measures your improvement. Students are pushed to think outside of the box in order to get a higher score. Oftentimes the popular strategy of choice is not the most successful for winning a game that scores how well you work together.

The win-win method empowers students to be involved in the greater good. If the combined score of the game improves, everyone wins. The only way to win is to work cooperatively as a community. This allows for individuals to feel empowered by being a part of something bigger than themselves.

INCLUSIVITY

EnTeam Games encourage and require students to be inclusive of their peers. Due to our scoring method, every player is valuable and needed. EnTeam facilitators have witnessed thousands of students encouraging their peers to contribute in order to win together.

EnTeam Games have a scoring system requiring cooperation of players from different “sides” (different teams or backgrounds) in order to win. Each player plays a key role in winning a game, showing the importance of working together to make a stronger community.
